09/21/26 -Your Younger Body Isn’t Necessarily the Benchmark

You look in the mirror and think, “When did my body become this hard to figure out?”

The things that used to work don’t seem to work anymore.

Maybe your weight responds differently. You’re more tired than you used to be. Recovery takes longer. Your sleep has changed. Or you’re doing many of the “right” things and still don’t feel like yourself.

And without realizing it, you start comparing your body today to the version of you from 10, 15, or 20 years ago.

“I just want to feel like I did back then.”

I hear this all the time.

But here’s the perspective shift I want you to consider:

Your younger body isn’t necessarily the benchmark.

At 25 or 30, your body may have been much better at compensating. You could get away with less sleep, more stress, inconsistent nutrition, harder workouts, and fewer recovery days.

That resilience can make us look back and assume we were healthier simply because we felt better.

But feeling like your younger self shouldn’t necessarily be the goal.

Your body has changed. Your hormones may have changed. Your responsibilities, stress load, sleep, muscle mass, metabolism, and nutritional needs may be different too.

So instead of asking, “How do I get my old body back?”

I’d rather ask:

“What does my body need to function well now?”

That’s a very different approach to health.

Pay attention to your energy throughout the day. Look at how well you’re sleeping and recovering. Notice changes in digestion, strength, mood, hormones, and how your body responds to stress.

Those patterns give us information.

The goal of longevity isn’t to spend the next several decades chasing the body you had at 25.

It’s to build a body that can continue supporting the life you want to live at 40, 50, 60, 70, and beyond.

And sometimes, the healthiest version of you isn’t behind you.

You just haven’t built her yet.
